Alternative Peers' Ball

 peerssite 002
6:00pm, Saturday 25 November

Featuring Django Django (Full headline set), Pictish Trail, Meursault, Man of Moon, Siobhan Wilson, SKJØR & Monoganon + LuckyMe
The inaugural Alternative Peers Ball is a contemporary re-imagination of the prestigious Peers Ball, presented in 1822 by Sir Walter Scott at Assembly Rooms, as a celebration of King George IV’s visit to Edinburgh, the first of a UK monarch to Scotland in two centuries. The event was a pivotal moment in the history of tartan in Scotland, as the first event of it’s kind to bring Scotland’s national dress to the mainstream after the repeal on the ban on the kilt to those out-with the military. As such holds it’s place in the history books as the birthplace of modern tartan.
On November 25th, Assembly Rooms and Vic Galloway will present our alternative, up-to-date version of the Peers Ball, celebrating the 230 year heritage of such a prestigious building with some of Scotland’s top music alongside installations and live drawing from some of our country’s top visual and contemporary artists. The line-up will include live sets from Django Django (Full headline set), Pictish Trail, Meursault, Man of Moon, Siobhan Wilson, SKJØR as well as a DJ set from Edinburgh’s LuckyMe Records and the artistic talents of Ursula Cheng, Too Much Fun Club, Donald Watson and Projector Club. Expect a part festival, part art installation and one of the year’s best parties.

Parkinson: Our Kind Of Music

 Michael Parkinson 900 x 560
7:30pm, Saturday 21 April 2018

Tickets £32.50 - includes the booking fee

Alongside his interviewing and writing Sir Michael Parkinson has spent much of his career promoting the appreciation of the music of the Great American Songbook and encouraging those of the new generation who are fighting to keep that flame alive. In the process, he has developed an encyclopaedic knowledge of that genre as well as interviewing some of the greats and finding time to talent spot the likes of Michael Bublé, Diana Krall and Jamie Cullum. But he is much more than a jazzer. His taste in music takes in everything from Razorlight to Paul Simon, The Beatles to Oasis with the consequence that Sir Michael’s seal of approval came to mean a great deal with every record label in the country wanting to bottle his A&R talent.

This passion and love of music in all its forms is celebrated in a new live show. In conversation with his son Mike, using classic clips from the extensive Parkinson archive and featuring live performances by the multi-talented Joe Stilgoe we take a fascinating and entertaining journey to the musical heart of Sir Michael Parkinson via Barnsley, sixties Manchester, Wood Lane and Broadcasting House.
