Assembly Rooms Edinburgh welcomed a very special guest on Tuesday 22 July as The Duchess of Cornwall (known as The Duchess of Rothesay in Scotland) made an official visit to the third Edinburgh International Fashion Festival.
The Duchess spent two hours at the venue attending a selection of events being hosted by The Assembly Rooms on behalf of the Fashion Festival. The organisers of the Festival were excited to welcome The Duchess who was pleased to meet the young talented fashion designers.
Her first port of call was the Music Hall where she was escorted around the Makers Market. The Market is a showcase of new and established Scottish and South African designers, with a focus on the development of garment making from thread to the finished article and beyond - from catwalks to retail.
Afterwards, The Duchess was shown a photography exhibition by industry giants John “Rankin” Waddell and Helena Christensen, one of the flagship events of the Festival. The exhibition contrasts depictions of strong men and strong women, with each photographer providing images profiling members of their own sex. The event runs in tandem with the inaugural Retina - Scottish International Photography Exhibition.
The Royal Visit was concluded with a menswear salon show where models wearing designs from prominent Scottish names such as Pringle of Scotland, Hancock and Common People mingled with the audience.
Shona Clelland, general manager of Assembly Rooms Edinburgh said:
“The Assembly Rooms has welcomed many members of the Royal Family over the last 230 years, and it was a huge honour to host The Duchess of Cornwall this week. Not only was it very exciting, it was also fantastic to see her supporting young emerging talent in Scottish fashion. We sincerely hope that she enjoyed the afternoon as much as we did.”
