Edinburgh has moved up five places to 27th in the ICCA Country and City Rankings 2018 and remains the 2nd most popular UK city (after London) for hosting major association events.
The ICCA rankings report benchmarks global cities on the number of association meetings taking place during the financial year. The rankings also show Scotland bucking the trend with the number of major association events held in 2018 up 5% from 2017, despite the UK as a whole dropping two places in the latest report.
The report highlights Edinburgh’s continued growth and appeal as a destination city for business events, with the improved position testament to the collaborative and proactive approach of the city’s events industry to bring in business.
Assembly Rooms was one of many venues in Edinburgh to contribute to the ranking, hosting international events such as MOWI’s (formerly Marine Harvest ASA) conference. Elsewhere the Edinburgh International Conference Centre hosted the European Orthodontics Society Congress, which welcomed more than 2,500 delegates from across mainland Europe.
VisitScotland Business Events won the ICCA Best Marketing Award for its first-ever digital campaign “Scotland. Where ideas become legend”. The campaign presented Scotland to the world as a premier destination for international business events. Assembly Rooms Edinburgh and other business across the country all took part in the campaign, a perfect example of the collaborative push to bring international business events to Scotland.
